this jacket is my new favorite piece - it's all about the shoulders! i took these photos (on a VERY windy day) outside of one of my favorite watering holes in town, no. 308, and thought it'd be fun to play with some black & whites.

on another note, i'm having way too much fun this week because my best friend is in town from boston! we're spending the days shopping/eating/relaxing. it's pretty fantastic :)

christmas at the surti residence was pretty amazing! the day started off with a little gift opening – we decided not to go crazy on gifts this year, but my mom did get me this fabulous cape and a insanely soft bath robe (i’d been wanting one to bring out my inner rachel zoe). then my brother made a fabulous brunch full of homemade brioche, sticky buns, and some huevos rancheros:

this was one of the first holidays i’d ever spent without my cousins, so after a call to the airport i decided to fly out and visit them all in south carolina! it was a great little impromptu trip and now i’m in south carolina until friday. i’m really thankful for my crazy lifestyle that allows me to work from pretty much anywhere – so here I am warm, cozy, and happy with my cousins in south carolina!

yes folks, i'm wearing flats! the other day i was inspired by all of the cute kids i saw running around in school uniforms and decided use that inspiration for this outfit! my friend chad took these photos at this fun coffee shop called portland brew in east nashville. i don't normally take photos inside, but he has a great eye and i thought this was a really great place to take a few shots!

in other news - this weekend has been filled with christmas activities! last night i went to a holiday party and today i'm going christmas shopping and caroling! i love the holidays :)

this outfit was a strategic one. my brother & i headed off to eat at nashville's latest culinary treasure: the catbird seat. it boasts a seven course tasting menu (they even did the entire thing vegetarian for me!) and it was beyond amazing. i chose this dress because it gave me the freedom to eat whatever i wanted :)

on another note, i was so excited when liam of york set me this amazing jewelry. their pieces are perfectly crafted and compliment almost any outfit - my personal favorite is the arrows ring!

a few years ago i probably would have never worn a cut out dress, but the older i get (i'm 24), the more confident i get with my body! that's something i'm proud to say and i think it's important to wear things that make you feel strong & sexy. this dress was definitely one of those pieces for me - i love the dramatic length and fantastic sides! it's another look from the thompson fifteen shoot and i was so glad the owner of the site, chelsea, brought it for me to wear that day.

i had so much fun at the nD festival this past week and was dripping in sleeveless jewelry at the opening party! my friend kyah designs this seriously gorgeous line and i was beyond excited when i laid my eyes on their latest collection. the dark reds, gorgeous greens, and nudes just scream fall!

the opening party was fantastic and there were some amazing local vendors like abby plachy from prairie go round and otis james (seriously, this man makes me want to wear a tie or bow tie everyday!):

i was so excited to be featured as one of nashville's 25 most beautiful people in nashville lifestyles magazine. i must say it is slightly awkward posting this, but my parents would kill me if they couldn't show off this post to all of their friends! anyways, i'm beyond flattered and thought i'd share the clipping with you:

the shot they used was my favorite, but here are a couple outtakes (i shot these photos a few weeks ago before i changed my hair color):

whenever i wear my hair pulled back like this, i always get a lot of questions about the products i use to achieve this look. my hair is really curly naturally, so to straighten it out i use this hana flat iron. it's seriously the best flat iron ever and the only products i use are moroccan oil and a whole lot of hair spray :)

there's something i love about putting a completely demure outfit in the middle of a crazy scene - the juxtaposition is always fun. i borrowed this dress from my friend marcia (who has a seriously enviable collection of dresses!) and felt like a ninja all day. not going to lie...i karate chopped a piece of styrofoam in front of my friends and thought they were going to die of embarrassment! one thing about me - i'm hardly ever embarrassed, so it makes my life pretty entertaining.

on another note - i'm SO excited for the nD festival this week! the festival is in it's second year and i'm most looking forward to the runway shows on sunday night featuring steven alan, jamie and the jones, and bodkin! be sure to check out their website HERE for a full schedule of happenings.

it randomly dropped 30 degrees in nashville today (the high was 65!) and so i decided to rummage through my fall wardrobe. it was a rainy labor day, but i still had an amazing time brunching, shopping, and spending time with some of my favorite people.

i received this umbrella as a free gift at a nordstrom event i went to recently and i must say - i'm kind of in love with it. even when it wasn't raining i was using it as a pointing device (which got on my family's nerves very quickly). oh well, i thought it was funny!

i'm a sucker for all things local. i eat local, love shopping local, and enjoy working with local talent. i had the opportunity to work with the amazing rebecca ward on this shots - she's an incredible nashville-based photographer with some serious skills! we met randomly through a friend, exchanged information, and ended up meeting last weekend to take a few photos.

on the clothing front - these tidwell and perryman (T&P) overalls are so insanely fun. i totally forgot about overalls after my sixth-grade-old-navy-overall-mishap and thankfully they brought me back! T&P is a local clothing company that carries fun vintage and original designs - they really do have the most amazing pieces.

last sunday my brother & i went to one of the most popular restaurants in nashville, city house. i must say, it was absolutely amazing and a big ol' caftan was the perfect outfit for an indulgent dinner :)

on sunday nights city house hosts "sunday supper", which includes an ever-changing menu and plates ideal for sharing! i'm vegetarian and they had plenty of great options:

one of the many fun things about going to miami is getting to wear funky outfits that i might not normally wear in nashville. i paired these alice + olivia shorts with a fun crop top and some seriously funky wedges - clearly i was feeling very 80s!

i bought this cute little book where i write things that make me happy :)

in the past six years, massachusetts has become my second home. i visit once or twice a year to hang out with my best friend and we always have so much fun together! this year we spent time in cape cod, provincetown and boston - our days were full of beautiful beaches, amazing people, and delicious food!

now it's time for my miami adventure..i'm going to throw on a romper, a pair of platforms, and head out for cocktails :)

daring backs are so fabulous. i love pieces like this top that look so simple in the front and than have dramatic backs!

i'm also really excited about my bangles because i feel like you have to develop your own personal stack of bangles, each one with a story. i've fallen love with my handcuff bracelet, which i wear with an actual handcuff, and a silver bracelet that i bought in boston years ago. hopefully one day i'll have a stack of bangles beautifully crafted to my life & travels!

i wore this outfit to an amazing ice cream store opening - have you guys heard of jeni's ice cream?? it's delicious! they have all sorts of fun flavors like wildberry lavender and goat cheese with red cherries!

indian-inspired tunics seem to have blended into global style recently and i was lucky enough to shoot a few pieces from inthing's latest tunic collection! my friend suruchi owns the business and is an amazing photographer (her pieces can be found online and at stores like anthropologie). this tunic is my favorite from the collection because of the amazing embroidery! i'm always baffled by the fabulous detailing on indian clothing - it's so intricate and beautiful!

i spent memorial day lounging by the pool with friends & then heading over to a graduation party - i worked all weekend so it was a much needed day off! since the party was outside it was the perfect occasion to wear my vintage romper. it came with these horrendous frog buttons on it, but i removed them and am loving the result!

oh and fyi: i'm in the process of growing my hair out a few inches, so please excuse the mess that is currently on top of my head!

many indian outfits come with a dress, scarf, and top, so i decided to experiment: i wore the skirt as a tube dress and then wrapped around a scarf to create a one shoulder dress (totally loving the 80s vibe of this fabric with the bold colors and sequins). i was excited to wear this fabulous bracelet with it because it was custom designed for me by lauren weiner! she is SO amazing - you all have to check out her beautiful pieces HERE.

also, because of the influx of cicadas in tennessee (ew!) - i've been having to experiment with in door photo shoots! the cicadas are literally everywhere!

i get emails and comments asking what beauty products i use, so i thought i'd share my beauty picks!

1) makeup
i am a self-proclaimed MAC addict. it was hard for me to find foundations/powders that matched my skin tone and i finally found the perfect match at MAC. from there i ended up loving pretty much everything else! for a casual everyday look i use studio tech, powder, blush, mascara, and a little gloss. i didn't picture all of my lip products as most of them are floating around in my handbags!

2) skin
for skin products i love aveeno. their products are affordable and you can buy them at any drug store!

3) hair
i spent most of my teenage years trying to tame my curls and finally found that chi products work best for me. i also love using chi heating tools - their blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons are the best!

4) nails
in college i quickly found out that a $40 bi-weekly mani/pedi was out of my budget, so i learned how to do my own nails. to this day i always do my own nails and try to keep them short, manicured, and painted. clearly i have an obsession with opi polishes:

this dress has a fun story: it was the first dress i designed (i had it constructed in india) back in 2005 and it ended up being my senior prom dress! i've been meaning to feature it on my blog for a while now and was excited when i had the opportunity to shoot with local photog extraordinaire, marty cherry. he's an amazing talent and i knew he'd be able to capture the nuances in the fabric and embroidery. it was fun running around barefoot in a field - i felt like i was in a bollywood film!

my year-round uniform starts with jeans and a white tee. from there i pile on tons of accessories, jackets, vests, hats, and of course, a very high pair of heels. it's comfortable, easy to run around in, and always makes me feel chic!

it was such a beautiful weekend in nashville and after a long week, the warm weather and free time were totally welcome! to celebrate the change in weather i wore a pair of light-weight indian pants (which i'm obsessed with because of the beautiful detailing). these pants are actually made to go under a tunic, but i enjoy wearing them with my american clothes - in my opinion, they look similar to harem pants!

i had my hair done a few days ago and decided to change it up a little - i haven't had color in my hair since high school, so i thought it'd be fun to try it out again! the new lewk (as brad goreski would say) inspired me to rock this leopard-trim jacket and despite the fact i love this piece, i quickly realized i could have used about 15 more layers because it was freezing! oh well, it was totally worth it :)

i'm currently snowed in to my house, and although the start of mercedes-benz fashion week will keep me highly entertained, i could use movie suggestions, jokes, or anything else you think i might enjoy!
